Ogg Vorbis (OGG)

Ogg Vorbis is a lossy audio compression format which is totally open source and with a free license.
It was developed to replace all the proprietary formats currently used for audio compression (MP3, WMA, etc.).
A quick explanation as to what the name means:
-Ogg is the name of the content format developed by Xiph.org for audio, video and metadata.
-Vorbis is the name of the scheme of audio compression which will eventually be included in Ogg. Other formats can be included in Ogg, such as FLAC and Speex.

There are many programs and libraries which use Ogg Vorbis files on different platforms (BeOS, Java, Legacy MacOS, Linux, MacOS X, OS/2, Windows). An example of the two most famous players which accept this format are XMMS (Linux) and WinAMP (Windows)
